| China's President Xi Jinping wants those responsible brought to justice |
The disaster, which saw rescuers dig with their bare hands, is one of the country's most serious industrial accidents in years.
Investigators in China have arrested 13 people after scaffolding at a building site collapsed killing 74 workers.
The disaster, which happened during the construction of a power plant in the eastern Jiangxi province, is one of the country's most serious industrial accidents in years.
Most of the dead had been working 230ft up on the interior wall of a massive cooling tower, when the scaffolding gave way.
The mass collapse turned the site, measuring the size of a football field, into a mangled heap of steel bars and wooden planks.
Hundreds of rescue workers, including police, dug through the debris with bare hands to try to find survivors.
State media reported the accident happened during a shift changeover, which may account for the high number of dead.
Work on the building of the 1,000-megawatt coal-fired power plant in the city of Fengcheng was being carried out around the clock in a bid to make progress before the arrival of the bitter winter weather.
The engineering firm Hebei Yineng, which is carrying out the project, has a history of workplace deaths.
Chinese President Xi Jinping has urged the local authorities to hold those responsible to account.
The country has suffered a number of serious workplace accidents in recent years, which have been blamed on weak regulation, widespread corruption of officials overseeing the projects and pressure to increase production as the economy slows.
The latest accident happened on the day former head of the state administration of work safety Yang Dongliang went on trial in Beijing for allegedly accepting $3.5m (£2.8m) in bribes between 2002 and last year.
He had risen through the ranks as an official in Tianjin before joining the country's regulatory agency.
Yang was sacked in August last year in connection with a huge explosion at an illegal chemical warehouse in the northern port of Tianjin that killed 173 people, most of them firefighters and police officers.
