Twitter mum on rumored Vine sale

SAN FRANCISCO — Twitter has no comment on a report it may sell Vine, the six-second video platform it plans to shutter soon.
A report in TechCrunch, citing unnamed people, Monday said Twitter hopes to make a deal soon, saving an app viewed by about 100 million per month.
"We don't comment on rumor or speculation," Twitter spokeswoman Brielle Villablanca said in an email.
When Twitter neared its acquisition of Vine in late 2012, some referred to the latter as "Instagram for video." (Facebook bought Instagram for $1 billion in 2012.)
But last month Twitter said it intended to close Vine, one of several cuts it announced. The struggling micro-blogging service also announced it would lay off 350 people, or 9% of its workforce.
