The Brussels prosecutor's office confirmed that the region's former president and his sacked ministers surrendered after Spain issued a warrant for their arrest.
"They were deprived of their liberty at 9.17am (8.17am UK time)," the prosecutors office said.
Spokesman Gilles Dejemeppe said the group have not been arrested and would be heard by an investigating judge on Sunday afternoon.
The judge will have to decide on a course of action - ranging from arrest and imprisonment to conditional release - by 9.17am on Monday.
A Spanish national court issued European Arrest Warrants for the five separatist politicians on Friday on suspicion of sedition, rebellion and embezzlement.
Judge Carmen Lamela rejected Mr Puigdemont's request to testify on video from Brussels.
Eight former ministers from the Catalan regional government have already been imprisoned without bail in Spain while the investigation continues.
Belgian legal experts have suggested extradition would take 15 days - with a further 45 days if the Catalan politicians appeal against the process.
Either of those two options could enable the exiled regional leaders to take part in the region's snap election on 21 December.
Mr Puigdemont - who has said recent events show the Spanish justice system has "become politicised" - has vowed to take part in the poll.
The crisis was sparked by the disputed independence referendum on 1 October and Mr Puigdemont's subsequent declaration of independence for Catalonia.
The declaration prompted the Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy to take the unprecedented step of using Article 155 of the constitution to sack Mr Puigdemont and his government and impose direct rule.
The move has seen Madrid take control of Catalonia's civil service, police force and finances and call the snap election, which could see as many as 150 of the region's top officials replaced.
