Trump set to appoint former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani as Secretary of State

President-elect Donald Trump is said to be considering Rudy Giuliani for Secretary of State

LOYAL Trump supporter Rudy Giuliani is favourite to be the next Secretary of State in the Republican administration, a source close to the President-elect has claimed.

Trump is believed to be open to giving the job to John Bolton, who served as US ambassador to the United Nations under President George W. Bush.
But the anonymous source said the GOP billionaire is not seriously considering any contenders other than Giuliani at the moment.

Newt Gingrich, former House of Representatives Speaker, said: “If Rudy wants it, he'll get it. He's already known worldwide.”
A friend of Trump’s for many years, Mr Giuliani was one of his most ardent supporters during his election campaign and also acted as a key advisor.

Giuliani led New York through the crisis of September 11

And the former New York mayor is already well-known across America and internationally, having led the city of New York during September 11 and throughout the aftermath of the crisis.
Trump is due to meet Vice President-elect Mike Pence at Trump Tower in New York on Tuesday for what is expected to be a discussion on his Cabinet.
His spokesman Jason Miller said Trump and Pence would be “reviewing a number of names for key jobs”.

Giuliani was an active supporter of Trump during his election campaign

Although Mr Giuliani has not commented on the speculation, he has said that he “won’t be attorney general” in Trump’s administration - a job for which he had previously been tipped for.
Asked about the rumours, Giuliani said that Bolton "would be a very good choice."
But asked if there was anyone better, he added: "Maybe me, I don't know.”

Trump is also said to be considering appointing a woman to lead the Republican Party and giving an openly gay man the job of US ambassador at the United Nations.
The move is seen as a way of countering the controversy surrounding his decision to appoint Steve Bannon, a man dubbed by critics as a white nationalist supporter, as chief strategist and senior advisor.
